Horizons

Building a brighter future for one parent families

Your Money - Programme Details

The Horizons Your Money programme offers a range of courses and individual support sessions to help one parent families manage their money.

Your Money Courses

There are a series of Your Money courses, designed specifically for lone parents. They cover a whole range of topics including basic household budgeting, choosing credit, managing debt, dealing with loans, Child Trust Fund and much more.

As with all Citizens Advice services, the courses are free and are very friendly and relaxed. In fact, it’s often the case that simply being with a group of people who are all in the same boat, can be extremely helpful. The sessions are very flexible and try to address all the issues faced by the group. However, if someone has a very specific or detailed problem an individual appointment will be set up.

Individual support

If you need specific help, you can book a one-to-one appointment to see an advisor at the bureau. Where possible, you’ll need to bring along all the information and paper work you have that relates to the issue.

Working with lone parents?

If you’re a professional working with one parent families and you feel that you and your team or the parents you’re working with would benefit from financial literacy training, then please call your nearest participating bureaux to discuss your requirements. If your local CAB isn’t providing the Your Money programme, they may still be able to help.

Our Horizons advisors are happy to run sessions for existing groups of lone parents or professionals supporting them.
