Family Action and Barclaycard Horizons have been providing educational grants for the last three years. The following are real stories from people we have helped to achieve their goal of furthering their education.
Emma is a lone parent living in London with her three children. On her grant application she wrote:
I was a bus conductress for several years until I was made redundant in 2004. I have been trying to get a job since but with no luck. Since I have eight GCSEs I decided to take a course in Nursing. At the moment I am on income support and haven’t got enough money for a computer which I really need. I have to pick the children up from school and can’t spend enough time at the library. At the moment all my assignments need to be typed so I really need a computer at home. I am very serious about this course and want to better my life and be able to provide for my family.’
Emma was awarded a grant of £200 towards a computer
