Gingerbread and Barclaycard Horizons have been helping lone parents get back to work for the last two years. The following are real stories from people who have attended the Your Work programme and how it has affected their lives.

‘When I started the Horizons programme I was worried about what it was going to be like but it was great meeting people who are in the same boat; we knew exactly what each other was going through. Even now I bump into people I met on the course when walking my son to school.’
Through Horizons, Arifa has continued her work experience, joining Gingerbread’s offices to work with the Innovations, Fundraising and Marketing teams. She has also helped to set up a sewing class with her friend.
‘When my friend lost the venue for her sewing class I spoke to the head teacher of the school and helped to set it up again. Before, I felt that I couldn’t do anything like that on my own but now I have more confidence to do things. My children have said to me that they are here to help out. They are very proud that I have completed the course.’
