Your Education Programme - education advice for lone parents


Horizons Your Education has been developed by Barclaycard Horizons in partnership with Family Action (formerly the Family Welfare Association) to help lone parents with the costs of education and training that will improve their job prospects.

In the last 7 years more than 2,600 grants worth over £1.1 million have been made from the Horizons Education Fund to lone parents in education or training.

We understand that finding the extra money for education and training can be a real strain on family finances so the programme not only offers grants and support towards the cost of the fees but we can also help with associated costs such as books, travelling expenses and childcare.

Vacancies now open for Barclays 1,000 Apprentices.

Once thousand young people in the UK with no prior work experience or qualifications are being offered their first crucial career opportunity in banking.

The programme is specifically looking for people with no, or few prior qualifications and experience as Barclays believes that by providing training and mentoring young people can develop confidence and skills.

Successful applicants will:

 - Receive a full salary for an entry level position

 - Benefit from 12months dedicated training, support and mentoring

 - Be given the potential to progress to a permanent position

 - Work to achieve a competency qualification in Financial Services similar to an NVQ or BTEC, and qualification in numeracy and literacy.

Family Action (formerly the Family Welfare Association) is a leading UK family charity, helping over 45,000 families every year.

Family Action’s work also involves providing a grants service to disadvantaged families to fund their essential needs. Clothing, fuel bills and household needs such as beds, cookers, washing machines etc. are most commonly requested from our general grants programme.
